wood, fabric, microphone
In this installation work entitled: ”Any Colour you Like“ Perkov addresses the notion of identity: cultural, and individual identity as well as political identity.
Does the flag we chose to express our identity really define us?
What would we have to say if we stood at a rostrum under a flag?
Transforming LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE in a venue of free speech, Vedran builds seven rostrums each one equipped with a microphone facing seven different-color flags.
Each flag color embodies a distinct political orientation.
The public is invited to choose a flag and stand at the rostrum to speak … or not.
This exercise reminds us slightly of the free speakers standing in soapboxes in London’s Hyde Park.
Vedran’s more solemn variation of citizen’s free speech takes on none the less a whimsical aspect with the splashes of the seven colors of seven flags: from Hyde to Park Luna Park.
Perkov hand us the required tools for public speaking, will we speak?
